Grab Your Parka, We’re Going To The Beach!
January 7th, 2011 Categories: News Wire, Photographs
Not able to get away to a warm beach this winter? Well, if it’s just sand, sun and beach umbrellas you’re looking for, perhaps a trip to Toronto’s Sugar Beach will suffice.

Just ignore the snow. Oh, and no swimming allowed. Just in case you were going to go all “polar bear dip” on me.

Swanning About Toronto’s Palace Pier Condo
November 25th, 2009 Categories: News Wire, Photographs
There was a really fun photograph yesterday in the National Post of swans rounded up in a couple of boats at Lake Alster in Hamburg, Germany. (Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a link to the photograph.)
My question: How do you Read the rest of this entry »

Front Door Fascination: Standing On The Corner of Pape & Eastern
November 20th, 2009 Categories: Front Door Fascination, Photographs
This is a surprisingly pretty entrance located on Toronto’s Eastern Avenue.

Why the surprise at such a pretty door? It’s just a little … unexpected. Eastern Avenue runs through what was once a very industrial area and although many of the factories (and sadly, the jobs) have long departed, the vibe is still somewhat hardscrabble.
I love how that particular shade of blue works so well with the yellow bricks. And especially that the planters are done up in the same shade of blue rather than trying to introduce a third colour. The old “less is more” notion. It just works! On second thought, it’s very Eastern Avenue.

In Toronto Real Estate Market, It’s All About Location, Location … Leslieville
November 18th, 2009 Categories: Home Buyers, News Wire, Photographs
It’s very, VERY common in the Toronto real estate market for listings to include a comment or two about the property being “close to all neighbourhood amenities”, or something along those lines. And it’s true: it’s hard to find a Read the rest of this entry »

One Last Look: Toronto Falls Into Autumn
September 22nd, 2009 Categories: Photographs
Many people refer to this as the summer that never happened. Because it didn’t. To recap: chilly, chilly, rain, chilly, rain, raaaiiiin, hot once or twice, overcast, chilly, high winds, tornadoes, and then glorious September weekends. I’ve been out on my bike on the Toronto lakefront trails the last couple of weekends, making up for Read the rest of this entry »

Front Door Fascination: Sunnyside Bathing Pavilion
August 10th, 2009 Categories: Front Door Fascination, Photographs
Technically … technically … there is no front door. Nevertheless, that’s a pretty spectacular entrance. Attention must be paid!
Sunnyside Bathing Pavilion, built in 1922, is one of the fanciest changing rooms I’ve ever seen. And even though it’s now well past its glory days (read: a tad seedy), there’s still lots of activity in the pavilion’s cafe, patio and terraces, as well as on Sunnyside Beach.

I can’t help but think that early twentieth-century Torontonians had a MUCH grander vision of how to make use of the waterfront than today’s urban planners and developers.

It’s A Moose-try! Where’s Lauren Today?
July 23rd, 2009 Categories: Photographs, Toronto EXPOSED
Welcome to the inaugural article of my Toronto EXPOSED series. It’s just me and my point-and-shoot camera, out and about in Toronto neighbourhoods doing my real estate thing, clicking whatever catches my eye. You never know … you just might!
Think you know Toronto? Can you guess where I am? I’ll give you some hints, so if you figure out where the featured photograph was taken leave a comment or send me an email.

HINTS: This moose is unique; he enjoys a good cup of coffee and the latest best-selling book. What a perfect location this is!

It’s June, the peonies have just opened. You know the rain is on its way.

They’re so beautiful; leave them in the garden or bring them inside to enjoy?
