Take A Message. Toronto Real Estate Market Adjusts To Cell Phone Road Rules
October 26th, 2009 Categories: News Wire
The cell phone serves me; I don’t serve the cell phone. So Bill 118, the new provincial law which took effect today and bans the use of hand-held cell phones and other devices while driving, is fine by me.

Doesn’t Answer Her Phone??
Although I’m a Toronto real estate agent, I’ve never subscribed to the idea that a cell phone MUST be answered on the first ring (or vibration) at ALL COSTS. Was that a thud I heard? Did you just fall over?? Careful there.
My approach has always been that when I’m available, I answer the phone. If I’m with clients or otherwise engaged (read: driving or it’s 3 am), your call goes to voice mail. Be assured, your call or text will always be returned promptly. And if you leave a detailed message, I’ll be well prepared with answers and advice.
This is how I roll. Based on the premise that if I don’t appreciate it when a salesperson takes a call when they’re serving me at the counter, why would I treat my own clients this way? Why would I treat YOU like that? Also based on the fact that I’ve never been comfortable calling or texting while driving. I’m not good at it. Trust, you don’t want me doing this.
Is Hands-Free Mode
Toronto Real Estate’s Solution?
Under the new law, hands-free mode is legal. Good news if you’re married to your cell phone, but not so great for those who are addicted to texting. As in cease and desist while driving Toronto’s roads. And if you’re using a GPS or iPod, be sure to set your destination or playlist before you head out so that you don’t have to handle the device en route (because that takes the “free” out of “hands-free”).
There are some great hands-free solutions out there, and I’ll check them out one day soon. If I’m caught in traffic, I want the option of being able to make and take necessary calls, but I still prefer to give my complete attention to callers. After all … It’s Only Business.
