One Last Look: Toronto Falls Into Autumn
September 22nd, 2009 Categories: Photographs
Many people refer to this as the summer that never happened. Because it didn’t. To recap: chilly, chilly, rain, chilly, rain, raaaiiiin, hot once or twice, overcast, chilly, high winds, tornadoes, and then glorious September weekends. I’ve been out on my bike on the Toronto lakefront trails the last couple of weekends, making up for my summer spent in the Toronto real estate bidding war trenches. (And for those who are curious: won some, lost some.)
I’m biased: this is my favourite time of year. I love the fall colours, the cold and the snow. And today at 5:18 pm, to be precise, we enter the autumnal equinox (read: first day of fall) when the length of day approximately equals the night. Which means starting tomorrow, the days get shorter and the nights get longer. Right up to the December solstice, which marks the beginning of winter and the shortest day of the year. But the next day …
Knowing that as much as I love this time of year, I also know there WILL be days when the salt stains creep up to my knees, the iced-up car needs to be scraped YET again, and the snow plows are somewhere in the neighbourhood but can’t seem to find my street when I most need a fast exit.
That’s when I remember how much I also love the garden. And that’s when I enjoy these photographs. I hope you do, too.

Honolulu is warm and humid. Kind of an indian summer.
Thanks,

Hey Lauren-
Are you sure this is a real estate blog? I’m thinking you should change your focus to photography. Really nice stuff, enjoyed the slide show immensely.

Heather,
Thanks so much for your kind comments about my photographs. My goal this year is to take photographs every day (falling a little behind already!) and see where it leads me.
